The Full Story
The Face Behind Maya Mae Studio
I am a mixed media artist currently creating soft AND bold abstract art full of stories and symbols. This deep dive into art and story shows up in my Totem and In the Same Breath series: paint, collage and ink layered on wood panels. My love of story and color began in Charleston, SC as a young girl. I remember loving and looking forward to weekly art classes at school. One particular memory I have is of clearly thinking "what if" while completing a painting of birds in a tree. My "what if" led me to try shades and tints of blue, gray, purple and pink in the sky surrounding the birds. My art teacher then asked me if I painted the sky that way on my own or did someone show me how to do that. Thinking I had done the project "wrong" I told her that no one had told me. I just liked mixing up all those colors. Little did I know that my love of color would lead me to a lifelong love of paint and design.

Vision
During this, one of many, life seasons, I intend to dedicate my time to art and sharing my work. I look forward to participating in art shows, artist residencies, online and in person galleries and showing up anywhere my work can freely roam.
Family
The only thing I love more than paint on my hands is having my feet in the sand. Family beach trips (mainly in Southern California) are truly my inspiration. If I am not in my Sacramento studio painting, I am at the beach "believing in the sand beneath my toes."
